A Monster hunting module for MÖRK Borg.

Armed with cruel traps built to shatter monstrous bone and thundering troll-hunting carriages—rolling fortresses of wood and steel—you chase deadly prey across cursed lands. The trolls are cunning, the roads are deadly, but the hunt must go on. Hope is depleted from the world, dead trolls seem to bring a little back.

Troll Reapers is primarily set up to be used as a quick one shot troll hunt for MÖRK BORG. It can also be worked into a larger campaign or multi session adventure using the optional troll lairs to extend gameplay.

Features,

  1. Random hunt event tables
  2. New traps and trap mechanics
  3. Troll chasing mechanics
  4. Four Troll chasing carriages
  5. Lots of new items used for troll hunting
  6. Six horrible troll types
  7. Six Troll lairs each with a plot intensifier
  8. One new class - Troll Reaper

Hunting - Is a core mechanic in this module, shaping the encounters the PCs will face.

While tracking their prey, players will likely stumble upon minor encounters, but their primary goal is to hunt down the troll. This involves roleplaying—searching for tracks, signs of damage, or droppings—before transitioning into skill checks, where advantages or disadvantages come into play. Success leads the PC’s to the troll or its lair; failure may result in the PC’s being the ones that are hunted.

Traps - There are several very deadly traps designed for causing grievous harm to trolls, this means that they are fairly, cumbersome, heavy, complex or all of the above. They need time and planning to set up and if a reaper is careless with the task, it will likely be the last thing they attempt.

Chases - Trolls rarely fight to the death. If the battle turns against them, they will run—seeking time to regenerate and return stronger. Troll Reapers are prepared for this, always keeping their trusty chase carriages close by.

These carriages are heavily armed, reinforced with armor, and stocked with tools designed for pursuit. Whether to run down a fleeing troll or retreat from a failed hunt, these war machines are the Reapers' best chance of fulfilling the hunt.

I really enjoy the premise of this.

Here is a little play report:

Recently I gm'd this, and the players hadn't had any idea what to do anymore after two stages of hunting (setting up traps, preparing for the troll to appear and baiting it with whiff), went pretty effortless thanks to their dice. The stage tables didn't deliver much of a threat or distraction to them.

In the end I let them fight the troll right after an uneventful stage 3, which then also went pretty easy for the players and only one of them took 1 hp damage, caused by himself.

I really wanted to try out the chase as well, but the troll died so fast as they want straight for the weak point of the rot fang.

For the next time, I'd leave it by 3 hunt stages (stage 2 to 4) and I would enhance the troll HP a bit.

All together, it was still a blast and I'm looking forward running a campaign for my players traveling the dying lands in their carriage, weakening HIM and HER by killing there troll breed one by one.

Firstly, your campaign sounds epic, hope it  goes well!

Secondly, thanks for taking the time to share your play report. I wish more people did that.

I’ve also found Rotfang can go down fast if the weak point is hit, but I don’t mind, I think crafty PCs should be rewarded. I'm glad you chose to bring the troll in early; the module works best when the GM adapts on the fly based on whats happening as appose to just relying on the tables.

Some hunts ive run do turn out a lot easier than others.  But on the flip side ive had some turn out pretty brutal. I do find though that’s Mörk Borg for you, with creative players (and Omens), the system can sometimes be surprisingly forgiving. If things feel too easy, don’t be afraid to toss in something wild, maybe Rotfang has a mate nearby?

As for the cart scene, I like to have trolls run before hitting half HP to be honest. Keeps the action moving and ramps up the chaos.

My advise for future hunts is to always favour what seems cool over what the table is telling you. The tables are best used to guide your hand.

The Shadow creeper may set your PC's "troll  fears" straight again. You can make the encounter pretty harrowing for the players.
